Konnichiwa to DIY yum cha…
Hirata buns have finally arrived, and it looks like they’re already turning the heads of London foodies. These do-it-yourself filled steamed buns may be Taiwanese in origin, but the Bone Daddies team have given them a Japanese twist. With a mouth-watering selection of fillings (or flesh) you’ll be wishing you had more people to come join the party! Think crispy duck leg with a sour plum soy, or braised pork belly with a mustard miso. But our shout-out has to go the sirloin steak with wafu dressing – perfectly pink, with a chargrilled smokiness.
Alas! It may be called Flesh & Buns, but there’s far more on offer than the name suggests. There’s plenty of tasty small dishes to wet the appetite, not least the crispy pepper squid. The prawn tempura is also a must try – lovely light batter and a winning yuzu ponzu. Or if you’re more of a sushi lover, then the salmon avocado and softshell crab rolls won’t disappoint.
Be sure to leave room for dessert…the kinako donuts wowed with their alternative black sugar custard, whilst there’s a Bone Daddies spin on the classic sundae. Yet we hear the biggest treat is the s’mores – self melted at your table – a perfect way for all to end the interactive meal.
With a great selection of sake, japanese-inspired cocktails and some rockin’ tunes, Flesh & Buns promises something fresh to London’s japanese dining.
